PASSION PLAYS

Passionate [verb:] enthusiasm, fascination, zeal, fervour, excitement, devotion

Passion and Nativity Plays evoke intense emotions and warm responses. They show the reality of second chances, forgiveness and new hope… and we are passionate about sharing them.

Passion [noun:] agony, suffering, distress, torment, torture

Passion Plays dramatize the story of Easter: how God entered our world of suffering and paved the way to new hope and a second chance. Jesus came to die on the cross and h His cruel death and disgrace was in exchange for our new life. His suffering – his passion – is the measure of his love for us.

Passion [noun:] fervour, intensity, feeling, excitement, hope, longing, desire

The stories portrayed in Passion Plays and Nativity Plays contain elements of betrayal, murder, innocent suffering, self-sacrifice, heroism, grace and hope. They have inspired such stories as Les Miserables and The Lord of the Rings.

PASSION PLAYS

Today there are many Passion Plays performed around the world and the tradition of both teaching the Gospel and Theatre in Education has continued. Each play focuses on the story of Jesus Christ, whether it be his birth (the Nativity Story), his life or his crucifixion and resurrection. Usually, Nativity Plays take place around Christmas time (celebrating the Nativity story in true Christmas style) and Passion Plays focusing on Jesus’ life often take place around Easter. Each Passion Play tells the story of Jesus Christ in a new light, resulting in unique performances that have the power to inspire and challenge audiences today.
